Overview of HERA project implementation
Project “HERA - Sustainable tourism management of Adriatic HERitage” dealt with some of the major challenges of all partner countries concerning culture and tourism sector, such as lack of an integrated management and promotion strategy of Adriatic cultural heritage, insufficient involvement of community actors in cultural heritage promotion and valorization activities, high seasonality of tourism demand, uneven development level of tourism offer between Adriatic countries, and last but not least, lack of promotion of Adriatic area as a unique cultural tourism destination on the international markets. Aforementioned problems were being combated by a partnership of 20 organizations from eight countries, led by Zadar County, through a series of activities worth 8.842.602,24 EUR.
Speaking from a public visibility point of view, the project started with a Kick-off conference in Zadar, Croatia on the 12th of February 2014 and ended with a Final project conference on the 23rd of November 2016 in the same place. In the meantime, all the project partners carried out their duties diligently and coordinated them with each other through a series of Project Team & Steering Committee meetings held in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina in June 2014, in Postojna, Slovenia in October 2014, in Rimini, Italy in March 2015, in Belgrade, Serbia in October 2015, and in Tirana, Albania in February 2016.
To ensure the sustainability of project’s results in the future, HERA Trademark Regulations were developed through expert work based on capitalization of previous projects and finetuned based on implementation of HERA’s pilot projects. Very significant work was done through HERA pilot projects as partners carried out infrastructural improvements of cultural heritage elements along their Cultural Tourism Routes (CTR’s), as well as their Visitor Centres (VC’s), which were also fully equipped, including new ICT solutions.
The aforementioned expert work was steered and adopted by the HERA Trademark Board through five HERA TM Board meetings that were held in Rimini, Italy in March 2015, in Dubrovnik, Croatia in June 2015, in Igoumenitsa, Greece in December 2015, in Podgorica, Montenegro in May 2015, and in Zadar, Croatia in June 2015, in Igoumenitsa, Greece in December 2015, in Podgorica, Montenegro in May 2015, and in Zadar, Croatia in November 2016. HERA TM logo was adopted by the HERA TM Board and subsequently received trademark protection from Croatian Institute for Intellectual Property and from World Intellectual Property Organization.
Statute for the Association was adopted by the HERA TM Board and the Founding Assembly of the HERA Adriatic Heritages Association was held on the 27th of October 2016 in Zadar, Croatia. Based on HERA TM Regulations, partners’ CTR’s and VC’s were evaluated and their evaluation reports served as foundation for HERA TM certification. HERA Award Ceremony was organized during the project’s Final Conference in Zadar.
It was a beautiful event in which all the project partners presented their finished pilot projects through video clips (which can be found in the "pilot projects" section of this website) and were awarded HERA TM certificates by Project Manager Lovro Jurišić.
