Joint Action Plan conference in Abruzzo Region

Joint Action Plan conference in Abruzzo Region

On the 13th of June it’s been held the Joint Action Plan conference in L’Aquila, in the Council Room of the Abruzzo Region, in order to present the project activities, aims and results. During the meeting, in the presence of project partners and economic and political stakeholders, an official presentation of the project highlighted the objectives of promoting the Adriatic basin as a unique valuable destination and of developing new models for the management of sustainable and inclusive tourism. The proposed models are also aimed at reducing the tourism seasonality through the marketing of the natural and cultural potential of Abruzzo territory.

Giovanni Savini, Director of the Regional Department of the Presidency and for the European relations of the Abruzzo Region, underlined the importance of maximizing the outcomes of the project in order to boost the economy and social development in the Region. Moreover he confirmed the work Region is doing in order to strategicly combine the investments deriving from the new programming period of ROPs ESF and ERDF, with substantial financing measures tailored at the promotion of the cultural and natural assets and at the exploitation of project products.

Maria Loreta De Panfilis (Abruzzo Region) highlighted that the real innovation of this project is the sustainability of the interventions even after the project closure, with a concrete economic impact on the territory. “The message we want to communicate with this project is that we have to make tourism an art. Our intention is to get to the certification of a quality brand of the offered tourist product.”

Emiliano Galluccio and Davide D’Innocenzo, members of Consorzio Punto Europa, project partner, have pointed out that Europe is the first tourist destination in the world and that the tourism is an asset on which the EU policies and programming period will be particularly focused in term of investments under different instruments and programmes. So it’s necessary to continue in the direction of valorizing, in terms of capitalization, what’s been achieved.

Claudio Ucci, external expert for HERA project, presenting the designed historical and cultural itinerary, described it as a “territory storytelling”, a journey into Abruzzo history. “Through the cooperation, we are creating an itinerary able to recount the unique offer our region can propose and to exalt all the parts that make it extraordinary and inimitable. We are working to build an original route, based on a widespread and integrated tourism offer”.

Sladan Topuzovic, other external expert for HERA project, reaffirmed the importance of integrating stakeholders’ proposals to make this itinerary more flourishing, accessible and appealing, in a perspective of seasonal adjustment. “The cultural heritage is always here, in each season.”

This route will be shared with local stakeholders and, thanks to their contribution, will be enriched and filled with content, in order to re-discover traditions and a past on which we can build an integrated tourist offer, that should be emotional and accessible by all possible means, with particular attention to the sustainable ones: walking, trekking, mountain biking, even horse drawn carriages.

The itinerary will be promoted capillary and in a timely manner: Abruzzo Region will realize 100.000 brochure, 20.000 localized thematic maps, a web site with a connected QR code that will be reported on 12 signs positioned in strategic places and a digital application designed just for the project.

Between the more attractive points of the route there’s Corfinio (Corfinium), a little village in Valle Peligna, that had its climax during the Social War (91-88 b.C.), when it was chosen as the Italic League Capital. It was in Corfinio that the name ITALIA was pronounced for the first time; here a coin was minted to counter the Roman monopoly and to enshrine the importance of this new State.

Besides the project partners, the JAP was attended by members of the press (Il Messaggero, Tv6 and RAI TGR Abruzzo) and some local tour operators (Narramondo, Bikelife, Wolftour and Auriga), who participated with cooperative proposals for the creation of tour packages which could be coherent and supporting  the most efficient implementation of HERA project outcomes.

At the end of the meeting it’s been also introduced a cycle of events that will launch the historical and cultural itinerary for the promotion of “Abruzzo Destination” and for the development of an integrated tourist offer, made of art, history, traditions, nature and typical food and wine culture, allowing tour operators to propose innovative and highly appealing theme packages.

The first event will take place on the 7th and 8th of July in Sulmona and will include to tourism operators a guided tour along an historical and cultural route defined in the territory between Sulmona and L’Aquila.

The second event, as final local conference, will take place in Corfinio (AQ) on the 8th of August.
