Project Objectives

vt logo style4HERA’s specific objective: "To develop a joint cross-border platform within the Adriatic area for management and promotion of sustainable tourism based on common cultural heritage". HERA deals with one of the major problems of all partner countries concerning culture & tourism sector - lack of an integrated management & promotion strategy of cultural heritage and insufficient involvement of community actors in cultural heritage promotion & valorisation activities.

For this reason, project activities are specifically addressed at developing an integrated Joint Action Plan (JAP) for management & standardization of Adriatic cultural heritage sites through direct & constant involvement of local/regional actors. Systematic benchmark of national policies & projects implemented by involving stakeholders/experts will capitalize previous experiences and develop JAP.

Since JAP is developed through cross-border institutional network & involves key stakeholders, this set of activities directly contributes to achievement of 3rd compulsory specific objective (CSO3) “To promote cross-border institutional networks involving key stakeholders (policymakers), supporting the establishment of public private partnerships and developing a joint action to strengthen sustainable tourist routes” of ST5.

In order to reduce seasonality in tourism demand & promote environmentally friendly tourism, thus contributing to achieve the 1st “To reduce the seasonality in tourism demand through the valorisation of tourism products connected to the cultural and natural heritage of the Adriatic coasts and hinterland“ and 2nd “To strengthen environmentally friendly tourism through the promotion of cultural and environmental tourist products’ networks able to support tourist demand/supply“ compulsory objectives (CSO1; CSO2), the project will, according to recommendations identified in JAP, define methodology/procedures for obtaining Adriatic cultural tourism destination trademark - HERA trademark.

HERA TM will define & guarantee high-quality tourism offer standards in line with environmentally friendly principles (CSO2), and at the same time, cultural heritage sites' appeal not being dependent upon weather conditions, helps reduce the seasonality in tourism demand (CSO1).

HERA procedure’s feasibility will be tested by Pilot projects (Cultural Tourism Routes & Visitor Centres), while joint Project Communication Plan establishes platform for promotion of cultural heritage, stakeholders networking, exchange of experiences, joint project & cultural routes development, etc. In this way project activities achieve project specific objective & contribute in achievement of general objective: "To develop a sustainable tourism joint cross-border platform within the Adriatic area aimed at implementing new models for management of sustainable tourism as a development engine for the Adriatic basin and at reducing the seasonality of tourism through the marketing of natural and cultural potential".
